Ventless gas logs are clean burning and very efficient. They can burn in either a ventless fireplace (no chimney) or a wood-burning fireplace with the damper closed. This type of log is designed to produce a hot flame while using fewer BTU’s. These type of sets have a very specific flame pattern. The logs are numbered and notched and can ONLY be stacked a specific way – no exceptions.
The flame comes up between the logs (not touching the logs) and there is a smaller ember bed beneath the set. Unvented logs are always equipped with an Oxygen Depletion Sensor (ODS) which is designed to turn off the gas before carbon-monoxide reaches a dangerous level in the room. Vent-free logs cannot be installed in a bedroom. Please check local codes before installing a vent-free fireplace in new construction.
- Unvented logs generate heat. Keep combustibles away from the fireplace.
- Always leave the fireplace doors open during use.
- Only burn a few hours at a time. Never go to sleep and leave vent-free logs burning.
- Open a window slightly while the logs are burning to let fresh air enter the room.
